LET ALL BITTERNESS GO
Ephesians 4:31, 32 "Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice. And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you."
It is impossible to pass through this world without being struck by injustice or heartache. Unless we process our struggles in Christ, a single wounding of our soul can create a deep bitterness within us, poisoning our very existence. We may perfect the art of looking polite while living internally with an angry, cynical, resentful spirit causing us to dry up spiritually. Ephesians 4:31, 32 tells us to let all bitterness be put away from us and forgive. We cannot afford to nurse bitterness in our life—the consequences are too costly. We can choose bitterness and risk losing everything that we profess and hold near and dear to us including our relationship to God. We can choose the Holy Spirit and His positive power which we need to put aside this dreadful sin. It will not leave on its own. It must be put away by diligent effort.
Bitterness is often from a refusal to release or forgive those who hurt us. It can develop into a root that causes other wrong behaviors to surface (Hebrews 12:14-15). It often comes out as complaining (Job 7:11; Job 10:1) or pouting (which is silent complaining). Bitterness is dangerous and it won't go away by itself, it must be put away and let go of. Bitterness is one of the marks of a heart going toward apostasy to the Lord or abandoning what you once believed (Deuteronomy 29:18). Do not let it linger, but put it all away. Grace can empower us to make it possible to let all bitterness be put away from us.
